Ryan Patrick Wines’ tasting room is open seven days a week (hours: Sun.-Fri. 11am to 5:30pm and Sat. 11am-6:30pm). It features Ryan Patrick Wines’ full line, as well as tasting room exclusive wines, and is located in the charming community of Leavenworth, WA. The area is serene and has become a mecca for mountain biking.

Ryan Patrick is known for letting the grapes speak for themselves, with natural winemaking techniques that don’t change the inherent nature of the grape. The wine is also made artisanally in small batches. The winery offers everyday drinking wines as well as a Reserve line, available at retail and its tasting room.

The 2012 Rock Island Red and 2012 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon recieved a double gold at the Seattle Wine Awards! Ryan Patrick’s everyday wines, most notably the Redhead Red, Ryan’s Riesling and Naked Chardonnay, are award winning too, with Naked and Ryan’s picking up a Double Gold and Redhead a Silver.

The Reserve line is special: a Reserve Chardonnay, a Rock Island Red and a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon all out-perform their price points. The 2012 Rock Island Red and the 2013 Reserve Chardonnay have received 90 points from the Wine Enthusiast, while the 2010 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon received 93 points.

Intriguingly spicy, featuring hints of nutmeg and coffee mingling with a supple core of black currant and sage flavors, lingering easily on the polished, medium-weight finish. Drink now through 2020.—H.S  November 15, 2013
